ABC’s Extreme Makeover Features ECI Family this Sunday, April 9th

One of DARS’ Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) families will be featured on ABC’s Extreme Makeover on Sunday, April 9th, at 7 p.m., CDT.

The Craft family lives near Austin and vacationed in Disneyland while their home was being remodeled to accommodate the special needs of their three–year-old daughter.

Todd Craft, the father, is a baseball coach at D’Hanis High School. He and his wife Liz have four children. Their youngest daughter Bella was born with minimal brain development and extreme hydrocephaly. She came home from the hospital with minimal life expectancy and doctors’ caution of little or no development. However, today, thanks in part to DARS’ ECI services, Bella has developed beyond anyone’s expectation. She is visually impaired, but can see up close and can recognize color. She hears and laughs and giggles at certain noises while interacting with her mom, dad, and siblings.

Without giving too much away, the remodeled 3000–square–foot home is totally wheelchair accessible, including a large play sensory stimulation room for Bella. The project was completed in one week.

Tune in on Sunday for an inspiring story and a close–up look at the great work being done in Texas by DARS’ ECI program. The Craft family receives early intervention services from Hill Country MHMR Center’s HOMESPUN ECI –funded through a contract with DARS.
