Texas Film Commission Web site Policies

The Texas Film Commission, in conjunction with the Governor's Office, maintains a public Web site for the film/television production and video game industries. Information ranging from agency services to State filming laws to regional crop and weather statistics is provided on the Web site. The Texas Production Directory and Job Hotline are also available on the Web site for Texas film, television, animation and game industry professionals seeking employment or employees.

    1. The Online Texas Production Directory is a searchable database reprinted from the current Texas Production Directory Print Edition of Texas crew personnel, vendors, associations and other industry-related entities. Texas Production Directory Rules and Requirements apply.
    2. The Job Hotline lists upcoming and current film/television productions and animation/game job openings in Texas hiring cast and crew. Texas Production Hotline Rules and Requirements apply.
    3. "Permanent Sets and Western Towns" listed are recognized by the Texas Film Commission as a set built and/or used as a location remaining intact for future film/television productions.
    4. "Regional Film Commissions" and "Film Festivals" are reprinted from the Texas Production Manual Print Edition. Texas Production Directory Rules and Requirements apply.
    5. All "University/College Programs" listed online must either be a public or private post-secondary institution governed by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, or a post-secondary level career school and college governed by the Texas Workforce Commission. Each program must offer a degree or certificate of completion with at least a significant emphasis in film/video production, animation, or game programming and design. Courses taught must prepare students for the workforce, and provide a strong foundation in the technical skills required for each profession. Note: An institution or college can, in some cases, be exemption from oversight by the THECB and the TWC, but should have an exemption letter from the appropriate group.
    6. Advertisements are not allowed on any portion of the Web site.
    7. Source material for the Web site is accredited to the Texas Film Commission, unless otherwise noted.
    8. All Governor's Office Web site Policies apply, including those on the use of content, Privacy and Security.

JOB HOTLINE - RULES AND REQUIREMENTS

The Texas Film Commission provides the Job Hotline as a free resource which lists current and upcoming professional film, television, animation and game projects throughout Texas. The Hotline is updated daily when there is new or updated information.

The Hotline has four sections: Crew Calls; Casting Calls; Animation/Game Jobs; and Call for Entries. The Crew Calls section lists employment opportunities for crew and technicians, but not actors. The Casting section lists opportunities for actors and extras. The Animation/Game Jobs section lists professional, paid job openings at companies that specialize in animation and computer/video game production. The final section, Call for Entries, gives information on submitting film/TV projects to Texas-based film festivals and screenwriting contests.

Listings on the Job Hotline are limited to film, television, animation and game projects which comply with the rules shown below. The rules are effective immediately and subject to change. Exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis. The Texas Film Commission reserves the right to refuse to list a project or to remove a listing at any time.

REQUIREMENTS TO LIST

    1. At least part of the filming must be done in Texas.
    2. The project must have its production funding in place.
    3. Student projects (i.e., any project in which participants receive course credit) are not eligible.
    4. Projects must have at least five (5) cast or crew openings. Projects with fewer openings may contact the Texas Film Commission for assistance with specific crew positions.
    5. Scripts must be submitted in standard script format and at least 20 pages in length. Scripts of 20-59 pages in length are classified as shorts, while scripts of 60 or more pages are classified as features.
    6. Listings on the Hotline must be for a specific project.
    7. Projects listed under the crew and/or cast section may not charge any fees for the application or audition process.
    8. Hotline listings for "Call for Entries" are limited to items of statewide participation for Texas film festivals and screenplay competitions.

HOW TO LIST

    1. Applicant must submit a completed Hotline Application, along with a complete script, to the Texas Film Commission. After receiving both the Application and script, the project will be listed on the Hotline within two (2) business days. Contact information is required for Texas Film Commission records, but if the information is marked with an asterisk (*), it will not be included in the public Hotline listing. An Adobe® PDF or Microsoft Word Application may be downloaded from our Web site in the "How to List" section of the Job Hotline. To have a Hotline Application mailed or faxed to you, please contact the Texas Film Commission.
    2. For Crew and Casting calls, applications must be accompanied by a complete script, which may be mailed, emailed or delivered in person. Because of length, faxes are prohibited.
    3. Scripts will be reviewed for length and inappropriate content. The Texas Film Commission may refuse Hotline listings based on content.
    4. Casting call listings may include a limited description (age, gender and/or race) of principal cast -- attach a separate sheet with the Application. Casting calls must be open to the public, and must provide date, time and place. The listing will be removed from the Hotline on the day after the open call, or within one week thereafter.
    5. In the case of errors in listings, please contact the Texas Film Commission and corrections will be made as soon as possible.

LISTING DURATION

    1. Listings for cast/crew will be listed on the Hotline for a maximum of one (1) month.
    2. The Texas Film Commission will remove cast/crew listings on the listed "start date" of the project, or within one week thereafter.
    3. In the case of postponed start dates, please contact the Texas Film Commission and the correction will be made as soon as possible. No more than one postponement will be accepted; upon the second postponement, the project will be removed from the Hotline.
    4. Animation/Gaming job openings will be listed for a maximum of two (2) months.
    5. Call for Entries may be listed no earlier than three (3) months before the entry deadline and will be listed for a maximum of six (6) weeks.
