The southeast bedroom became the Sam Houston Bedroom in 1982. This bedroom is the mansion's second official state bedroom. Highlights of the room are the Sam Houston Bed and Sam Houston memorabilia. The Sam Houston bed was bought during the Houston administration (1859-61).

Welcome to the Texas Governor’s Mansion! This premier historic home of Texas has served as the official residence of Texas governors and their families since 1856. It is the fourth oldest governor’s residence continuously occupied in the United States and the oldest governor’s mansion west of the Mississippi River.

Monday – Thursday, 10:00 a.m.–12:00 noon, every 20 minutes; last tour begins at 11:40. Please understand there is limited availability on each tour.

For security purposes, ALL visitors must make a reservation at least one business day prior to their desired tour date. Please call 512-463-5518 to make your reservation. When making your reservation you must provide birth dates for all visitors and an acceptable photo ID number (drivers license, passport, state ID) for adults 18 years of age and older. All adults are required to present an acceptable photo ID (drivers license, passport, state ID) at the front gate. If you fail to bring your ID you will not be allowed on the grounds.

Please leave all personal items locked inside your vehicle. NO purses, bags, billfolds or cameras/video equipment will be allowed on the grounds.

Metered parking is available on nearby streets ($.25 cents for 15 minutes of parking time). Parking is also available at the State Visitors Parking Garage, 12th & San Jacinto (first two hours free, then $.75 for each additional 30 minutes). Allow sufficient time to park and walk to the mansion.

The mansion is closed Dec. 19 through Jan. 19. The mansion will reopen Monday, January 23, 2006 at 10:00 am. The mansion is closed Fridays, weekends, and major holidays. It is also closed for a two-week period in late July/early August for annual maintenance. Last-minute changes can occur. Call 463-5516 for the updated tour schedule.
