CSAP's Southwest Center for the Application of Prevention Technologies at the Southwest Prevention Center

PURPOSE CSAP's Southwest CAPT supports the integration of prevention research and practice in nine states: Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. Practicing substance abuse prevention goes beyond substance use and abuse to look closely at the underlying causes for substance abuse and identifies ways to promote healthy behavior. MISSION CSAP's Southwest CAPT's mission is to support the exchange of knowledge between researchers and practitioners, increasing the application of science-based prevention programs, practices, policies, and principles at regional, state and local levels. Participation in the scientific process increases understanding and expands capacity of organizations and groups to support the development of safe and healthy communities. Local Trainings Certified Prevention Specialist Information Certified Prevention Specialist - a reciprocal credential for those professionals active in prevention. Requirements include, but are not limited to: A. One hundred hours of education. Fifty hours must be coursework that is Alcohol/Drug specific, and fifty hours must be Prevention specific training B. One hundred twenty hour practicum in prevention D. One letter of reference from a supervisor and two letters of reference from peers C. Successful score on the ICRC Prevention Examination E. One year (2,000 hours) prevention work experience This credential has reciprocity with other ICRC member boards. Certified Prevention Specialist Application Recertification Requirements
