Internet ResourcesThe Texas Council on Problem and Compulsive Gambling is a non-profit organization established in 1991 to provide and promote services to problem gamblers, their families and other individuals or institutions. The Texas Council is funded by Members, Contributions, and Grants. The Council uses a Public Health Model to provide its service. The Texas Council is the official affiliate for the state of Texas of the National Council on Problem Gambling (ncpgambling.org), joining over 30 other states as part of a national network National Council on Problem Gambling - The National Council administers several nationwide programs, including a 24-hour confidential helpline and a gambling-specific certification program for treatment professionals. It also sponsors conferences, supports research, distributes literature and works with other organizations involved in problem gambling issues. Gamblers Anonymous - A fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from a gambling problem. Gamblers Anonymous has information regarding problem gambling and a directory of group meetings. Gam-Anon - The self-help organization for the spouses, family members or close friends of compulsive gamblers. This site contains problem gambling information and literature as well as a meetings directory. Harvard Medical School Division on Addictions – This web site contains current news and research regarding addictions. National Gambling Impact Study Commission Final Report – 1999 report on the impact of gambling in the Pathological Gambling: A Critical Review – 1999 report commissioned by the National Research Council and published by the National Academies Press. National Center for Responsible Gaming – This organization funds research to identify risk factors for gambling disorders and to determine methods for treating and preventing the disorder. The site contains links to a number of resources. North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries – Provides links and resources to information regarding problem gambling.
