Bastrop State Park

Looking for tall trees and cozy cabins? Well look no further than Bastrop State Park.

In this video, take a drive through the Lost Pines of Bastrop State Park. Assistant Manager Todd McClanahan describes the sites and sounds of the area: a red-headed woodpecker, the cabins made of native Carizo Sandstone by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), area activities such as fishing, hiking, biking and picknicking under the tall pines. A short segment shows historical footage of original construction of the cabins and refectory by the CCC in the 1930's, then more recent footage of the CCC reunion in 2004, which was held at Bastrop State Park. Finish the journey with cyclists riding at adjacent Buescher State park and shots of the elusive and endangered Houston Toad, the largest population of which lives in Bastrop State Park.

Brazos Bend State Park

Brazos Bend is a nature lover's paradise.

This video depicts scenes of nature and wildlife at Brazos Bend State Park: an alligator sunning on a log, deer grazing as a car filled with onlookers slowly drives passed, morning dew on a spider web in the tall grass, and a variety of migratory birds such as the Spoonbill and Egret. There are scenes of the Nature Center, George Observatory, primtive trails, ancient oak trees and people enjoying the fully accessible, half-mile paved trail which follows a creek filled lake.
