- General Position Description: Under the direction of the Site Manager this position serves as the museum curator, educator, volunteer coordinator and purchaser. Develops exhibits, tours, educational programs, special events and training workshops. Implements resource management programs for artifact and archive preservations, conservation and inventory. Performs routine grounds maintenance/housekeeping duties at facility. Serves as purchasing agent for the site. Collects revenue, reports and provides tours for visiting public. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division, and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Working Conditions: (1) Required to work forty hours per week that includes flexible schedules, hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with days off other than Saturday, Sunday and holidays; (2) Required to respond to emergency calls and work outside in adverse weather conditions; (3) Outdoor grounds work in all types of weather may be necessary at some times, mowing and trimming are necessary in summer heat weather; (4) Required to travel with occasional overnight stays; (5) Non-smoking environment in all State vehicles and buildings.
- Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree for an accredited college or university. Acceptable Substitutions: TPWD employees hired prior to January 1, 1998 may substitute up to two years TPWD experience in park management, supervision and operations for the required education at a rate of one year work experience equals thirty semester hours with a maximum substitution of two years work experience for sixty college hours. Preferred Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Park Administration, Recreations & Parks, Museum Studies, History, Education, Wildlife/Fisheries Science, Natural and /or cultural Resource Conservation, Range Management, Forestry, Biology, Anthropology/Archeology or closely related field.
- Experience: Two years of experience in development and implementation of interpretative and education programs. Preferred Experience: Two years experience in museum management and cultural/historical interpretation and education.
- License/Certifications: Must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid Texas class C: driver's license. NOTE: Retention of the position is contingent upon obtaining and maintaining the required license.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: (1) Knowledge of the fundamentals of cultural resource and protection; (2) Knowledge of interpretive techniques such as living history, exhibit development, publication preparation; (3) Knowledge of special event planning and implementation; (4) Skill in the use of computers and various software packages such as MS Word, Excel, Oracle, File Maker Pro; (5) Skilled in planning, organizing and managing special events and making public presentations; (6) Skill in effective verbal and written communication; (7) Skill in working independently and using sound judgment in decision making including ascertaining areas to be considered confidential and maintaining confidentiality in sensitive matters; (8) Skilled in using initiative in accomplishing tasks without direct supervision; (9) Skilled in operating landscape equipment and equipment typical to historical home repair and maintenance; (10) Ability to train and serve as Team Leader for volunteers; (11) Ability to maintain grounds, facility and collection at a historic site; (12) Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD's safety program.
