Featured Event April 21, 2007San Jacinto Battleground SHSSan Jacinto Day Festival and Battle Re-enactment — Enjoy living history encampments and re-enactors in period costume, demonstrations of weapons, activities for children and more. At 3 p.m., a re-enactment of the famous 1836 battle which won Texas' Independence from Mexico will be fought. Cannon and musket fire will fill the air with the sights and sounds of April 21, 1836! April 22, 2007San Jacinto Battleground SHS2007 Battle of San Jacinto Triathlon — The City of La Porte and San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site team up for this 2nd annual event, which combines swimming, running and bicycling all in one race. The event will begin at Sylvan Beach with a stream of participants swimming 1.5 km in Galveston Bay, followed by a 40 km bike race that includes an out and back ride over the Fred Hartman Bridge and finishing at the base of the San Jacinto Monument with a two loop 10 km run. The duathlon will consist of a two-mile run, followed by a 40 km bike race that includes an out and back over the Fred Hartman Bridge and finishing at the base of the San Jacinto Monument. The aquabike will consist of a 1.5 km swim in Galveston Bay, followed by a 40 km bike race that includes an out and back over the Fred Hartman Bridge and finishing at the base of the San Jacinto Monument. 7 a.m.; fee $1 park admission for spectators 13 and up; registration required for triathlon. Featured Event May 20, 2007San Jacinto Battleground SHS17th Annual Monumental Bug Bash — The Bay Area Volkswagen Club hosts their annual car picnic. Oodles and oodles of bugs and beetles are featured! All makes and models of VW's welcome.
