December 1–31, 2006Big Spring SPPoinsettias in the Park — Visit the park and see six large metal poinsettias (each one 20 feet wide and 8 feet tall) wrapped in Christmas lights. These lights will be placed on the edge of the 200-foot bluff at the northern limit of the Edwards Plateau in the park. March 10, 2007Palo Duro Canyon SPCCC Trail Nature and History Hike — Meet with the park interpreter and hike the only trail that goes from the rim to the floor of the canyon. This hike takes you over four stone bridges constructed by the CCC during the 1930s. Learn about the history of the canyon and view its beautiful scenery. Caution: trail has some steep areas. Featured Event April 13–15, 2007Fort Richardson SP&HS & Lost Creek Reservoir State TrailwayFort Richardson Days — We will celebrate our 140th anniversary by turning back time, inviting all manner of living historians and historical re-enactors to take us back to the 1860s and 70s. Friday will be dedicated to all school groups to participate and meet the presenters. Saturday will be open to all visitors to meet and interact with the live-action, historical displays and their characters. See an 1860s baseball game; laundresses take in troopers' wash; soap-making, bread baking and afternoon tea with the ladies' contingent while the cavalry, infantry and artillery show off their skills throughout the day.
