January 13, 2007Corpus Christi, TexasFlying WILD Workshop — Flying WILD, a companion piece to Project WILD, explores bird conservation through classroom activities and stewardship projects. During the six-hour workshop participants will receive an educator's manual, sample activities and explore guidelines on how to implement school bird festivals and conservation projects. Teachers, informal educators and youth group leaders may take the training and receive three hours SBCC/TEEAC credit. February 10–11, 2007Battleship Texas SHSRemember the Maine — This memorial event pays tribute to the Americans who fought in the Spanish American War, and to the first U.S. Navy ship to bear the name TEXAS, which played a crucial role in the American Naval victory in Cuba. Historical interpreters will stage small arms demonstrations, from flintlocks to machineguns and you can visit encampments depicting the various eras of our nation's military history. April 22, 2007San Jacinto Battleground SHS2007 Battle of San Jacinto Triathlon — The City of La Porte and San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site team up for this 2nd annual event, which combines swimming, running and bicycling all in one race. The event will begin at Sylvan Beach with a stream of participants swimming 1.5 km in Galveston Bay, followed by a 40 km bike race that includes an out and back ride over the Fred Hartman Bridge and finishing at the base of the San Jacinto Monument with a two loop 10 km run.
