CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The North Texas women's basketball team was unable to carry over its efficient offense from a successful weekend to its game Thursday night in North Carolina, as the Mean Green lost to Charlotte 71-46. Overall, the visitors shot 24.1-percent from the field and were outscored 31-16 in the second half after trailing by only 10 at the halftime buzzer.

Junior forward Acheil Tac led North Texas with 12 rebounds and added nine rebounds, coming up one short of her third-consecutive double-double. Tac also added two steals and a block, while shooting 4-9 from the floor and 4-5 from the foul line for a very enviable stat line. Coming off earning a Conference USA Player of the Week award, senior guard BreAnna Dawkins contributed 10 points for her 13th double-digit scoring game of the season and 30th of her career.

Charlotte was led by an underneath force by the name of Kenya Olney, as her presence underneath altered many Mean Green shots throughout the game. The sophomore forward dominated the paint, accruing nine points, with career highs of nine rebounds and seven blocks. Senior guard Hillary Sigmon had a game-high 18 points on 6-14 shooting and three other 49ers scored in double-figures.

Unlike most of its games lately, North Texas got out to a hot start. The visitors led 5-0 only 85 seconds into the game, which caused Charlotte head coach Cara Consuegra to call a timeout. The Mean Green hung tough with the 49ers for much of the first half, being down only 24-21 with 5:53 remaining, but the home team ended up with a 10-point halftime lead and never looked back.
