Mean Green At SMU

DENTON – North Texas women's basketball travels to Dallas to take on SMU Wednesday at 7 p.m. inside Moody Coliseum.

About the Mean Green (2-3, 0-0 C-USA)
The Mean Green snapped a three-game losing skid with a 92-78 win over North Dakota State Nov. 24 at the Tiger Turkey Tipoff hosted by Pacific. Redshirt senior guard Terriell Bradley dominated offensively with a career-high 40 points as the Mean Green registered the most points ever scored in a quarter in program history with 33 in the first period.
Bradley leads UNT in scoring at 18.2 ppg, while sophomore point guard Trena Mims is posting 12.6 and has dished out a team-high 17 assists. Junior post Anisha George is pulling down six rebounds per contest and has amassed eight blocks.
The Mean Green are outscoring their opponents by an average of 5.8 points while shooting 39.9-percent from the field compared to 37.8 from their foes. The rebounding battle is nearly even as UNT grabs 39.4 boards per contest rivaled by 39.6, and North Texas is averaging 13.6 turnovers and forcing 15.2.

About SMU (4-3, 0-0 American)
The Mustangs most recently recorded two wins at the LMU Thanksgiving Classic last week with victories over Robert Morris and Northern Arizona. Their three losses on the season have combined for a total of four points.
Senior forward Alicia Froling averages a double-double with 13.9 points and 11.6 rebounds along with two blocks to lead SMU. Freshmen guards Amber Bacon and Kayla White each contribute 11.3 point per game, while sophomore guard Ariana Whitfield hands out 3.7 assists per contest.
The Mustangs are ranked eighth nationally in free throw attempts with 158 on the year. Froling has accumulated five double-doubles for the fourth-highest total in Division I, and her 81 total rebounds is fifth-best.

History between the squads
The Mustangs hold a 31-17 all-time advantage over the Mean Green dating to the 1976-77 season. The outcome has twice been decided in extra periods with North Texas earning a 91-85 double OT win in Dallas during the 1981-82 season, and SMU taking an 84-79 overtime victory in Denton five years ago. UNT is the most recent victor in a 47-40 decision last season, and Head Coach Jalie Mitchell is 2-1 versus SMU during her tenure.

Last matchup
DENTON (Nov. 29, 2017) - The formula to the Mean Green's 47-40 victory over SMU at the Super Pit on Wednesday was defense, defense, defense, defense - and just enough offense.
North Texas made just 32 percent of its field-goal attempts, didn't break 20 points in any quarter and finished with a season-low point total - and yet never trailed.
A sensational Mean Green defense held SMU to 29-percent shooting, forced 24 turnovers, held Mustangs leading scorer McKenzie Adams to eight points below her season average and kept the Ponies at bay until the North Texas offense could find sufficient points for the win.
North Texas' top scorer, Terriell Bradley, hit four free throws in the final 21 seconds, Micayla Buckner knocked down a jumper in the lane for a six-point lead with 2:43 to play and pulled down the biggest of her 11 rebounds with 23 seconds left, and Brittany Smith added nine points for the Mean Green (5-1).

Offense comes alive
After averaging just 48 points throughout the three games before North Dakota State, the Mean Green erupted for 92 against the Bison. In losses to Texas, K-State, and Wyoming, UNT put up 27 points combined in the opening 10 minutes before tallying 33 versus NDSU in the first period for the highest total ever recorded by the Mean Green in a quarter. The 33 points equaled the total acquired throughout the first three quarters in the loss to Wyoming the previous day.

George down low
Junior post Anisha George earned her first career starts at the Tiger Turkey Tipoff and made her presence felt in the paint. Heading into the Tipoff, the St. Croix, Virgin Islands, native had collected season totals of eight points, eight rebounds, and three blocks. In the games versus Wyoming and NDSU, George posted 25 points, 15 rebounds, and five blocks while shooting 11-of-16 from the field. Her averages now stand at team-leading six rebounds and two blocks as well as 6.6 points.

All-around play by Mims
Throughout the first five games of the season, sophomore point guard Trena Mims has been contributing to the Mean Green in several ways on the stat sheet. The Muskogee, Oklahoma, native is leading the team is assists with 3.4 per game, is second in scoring at 12.6 ppg, and third in rebounding with 4.4 boards per game. Standing 5-5, Mims set a career-high in rebounds with eight in the season opener against Mid-America Christian and has twice made a career-high seven field goals in 2018-19.

Townley taking charge
Redshirt sophomore forward Madi Townley is not afraid of contact on the court, and it has been evident this season. Throughout five games, the Duncanville High School graduate has baited the opponents into nine offensive fouls with four coming in the season opener against Mid-America Christian and three versus Wyoming. Townley has taken at least one charge in all but one contest in 2018-19.

Bradley enters top 10 in scoring
With her breakout career-high 40-point performance of the season against NDSU Nov. 24, Terriell Bradley elevated from 14thin the UNT career scoring charts to the ninth spot with 1,067 points. Thirteen more will move her up to eighth, whereas Head Coach Jalie Mitchell's (1998-2002) record of 1,764 sits above all. With 23 regular season games remaining, Bradley would need to average just over 30 points per game to reach Mitchell. If the Mean Green were to win three games in the postseason, the average slims down to 26.8 points. If Bradley continues her current 18.2 average throughout the regular season, she would move into third all-time just shy of 1,500 points.

Bradley moving up the charts
With 304 free throws made, Bradley sits in fourth place all-time in program history. She needs 61 more to tie Isalene Jones (1980-84) for third. Not out of sight is the No. 1 spot, held by Head Coach Jalie Mitchell who sank 411 throughout her career. Bradley made 164 from the line last season and now needs 107 to dethrone Mitchell.
Bradley is one 3-pointer shy of 100 in her career and is currently sixth all-time. She is 13 away from the fifth spot, as Ashley Norris (1995-2000) occupies the top spot with 197.

Last outing for the Mean Green
STOCKTON, Calif. (Nov. 23, 2018) – Terriell Bradley produced a career-high 40 points, and North Texas put up 33 in the opening period for the highest UNT total scored within a quarter to direct North Texas to a 92-78 win over North Dakota State Friday at the Tiger Turkey Tipoff inside the Alex G. Spanos Center.
Bradley upped her previous high of 32 set last season against FIU, as the redshirt senior guard connected on 12-of-23 from the floor, including knocking down 8-of-13 from beyond the arc. The 92 points scored against the Bison (2-3, 0-0 Summit League) also occurred in the contest against FIU Feb. 18, 2018, and was the last time UNT eclipsed the 90-point scoring mark.
Bradley scored 12 of her points in a four and-a-half minute span during the first quarter while the Mean Green (2-3, 0-0 C-USA) succeeded on 13 of their 19 shot attempts. At the 2:06 mark of the period, UNT had made 12 of their first 15 shots on their way to the highest-quarter total scored since last season when the Mean Green tallied 28 to open the contest against Mid-America Christian.
