Tennis Shoots Down Kansas State 4-3

TULSA, Okla. (3/6/2010) - Mean Green tennis defeated its second Big 12 team of the season Saturday afternoon when it squeaked by Kansas State at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center, 4-3.

"We found a way to win on a day when we did not play our best," said head coach Sujay Lama. "We are now at the half way point of our season, and we still have more work to reach our full potential."

North Texas (6-4) started out the scoring taking all three doubles matches en route to the double point.

The duo of freshman Barbora Vykydalova and senior Catalina Cruz jumped out to an early lead over the Wildcats Petra Chuda and Karla Bonacic and never looked back, finishing the match 8-3.

In singles, sophomore Irina Paraschiv made her return to the No. 1 position after playing the past two matches in the No. 2 spot.

Paraschiv took the first set 6-3 against Kansas State's Antea Huljev, before dropping the next two 6-4, 6-1.

Junior Madura Ranganathan cruised to victory in the No. 2 slot taking down Nina Sertic 6-2, 6-0.

After dropping her first set in singles 6-4, Cruz roared back to defeat the Wildcats Petra Chuda 6-1, 6-2.
