FORT WORTH  — The North Texas tennis team fell 6-1 at TCU Friday afternoon.

In the match, the Mean Green (2-3) changed their lineup by putting their No. 45 nationally ranked player Tamuna Kutubidze and the No. 1 position in the lineup and senior Maria Kononova at No. 2. It was the first time in her collegiate career Kononova didn't play at No. 1.

North Texas' lone victory over the Horned Frogs (5-0) came at the No. 6 position when TCU's Addy Guevara had to end the match with an injury against Mean Green junior Ivana Babic. 

North Texas head coach Sujay Lama said the match changed early in the doubles competition when TCU slipped by the Mean Green to get the early point. 

"The doubles point was huge today," Lama said. "We had the opportunity to put the pressure on TCU but came just short. We have to be aggressive and decisive in those moments." 

Friday marked the first time this season seniors Kononova and her doubles partner Minying Liang lost a doubles match as they lost 6-3.

The doubles loss carried into singles as Lama said they struggled to stay focused. 

"We battled hard in singles but the difference was that we lacked the discipline and focus necessary to pull of the wins," he said. 

North Texas has the chance to bounce back on Saturday as they host UTEP at noon in Denton. 
 
"The good news is we get back to work tomorrow and have the opportunity to improve our execution," Lama said. "It's time to get on a roll. We need it to build our confidence to where it needs to be to have the success we are capable of having."
