Solid Team Day Helps UNT Move Up Leaderboard

WINDERMERE, Florida – After two disappointing rounds at the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational, the Mean Green wrapped up their fall schedule on Tuesday at the Isleworth Golf & Country Club on a positive note, moving up the leaderboard and seeing all of their golfers finish within two shots of each other.

For the second straight day, senior Jordan Sanders led the way for UNT in a loaded field, shooting a 1-under-par 71, matching teammate Lenny Bergsson, who bounced back for an under-par score in the team's final round of the fall.

Thomas Rosenmueller, Viktor Forslund and Kristof Ulenaers each shot a final-round 1-over 73 as the team fired an even-par 288 – an 11-stroke improvement on Monday's score and 16 shots better than Sunday's opening round. The Mean Green finished 13th after ending the first two days of play in 15th place.

The field featured 10 top-50 teams, including No. 48 UNT, and seven of those entered the tournament in the top 25. No. 13 Vanderbilt dominated the field, finishing the tournament at 31-under par – 20 shots better than No. 18 Arizona State and No. 22 Auburn, who tied for second.

"I believe the team learned a lot this week," UNT coach Brad Stracke said. "The guys played good and showed a lot of heart. Our good play allows us to compete with top-25 programs, like beating No. 6 and No. 18 two weeks ago (at the Maridoe Intercollegiate)."

The Mean Green will now take a break before beginning the spring season Feb. 17-19, in Houston at The All-American Intercollegiate.

"We will learn how to save shots when we are a little off and get better in the offseason," Stracke said. "I am looking forward to seeing who we can beat when we are on."
