Pohl Recreation Center & PEB Natatorium

The home of the Mean Green swimming and diving team is located north of the Super Pit on Chestnut Street, spanning the block from North Texas Boulevard to Avenue D, and its distinctive design has been the subject of articles in Texas Architect and Mondo Track & Field.

The massive 138,000-square-foot, two-story Pohl Recreation Center has an eight-lane pool with bleachers for fans and an electronic scoreboard. The facility is also equipped with a six-lane 25-meter pool for training and warm-ups. Adjadent to the Recreation Center is the PEB Natatorium, which houses the diving facilities: two one-meter springboards and a three-meter springboard.

The Center opened in 2003, not only providing swimming and diving with a venue but also offering an array of fitness facilities for students, faculty, staff and alumni. Indoors, there are three basketball courts, three volleyball courts and four badminton courts, and outdoors there are also full and half basketball courts and a sand volleyball court.

The jogging/walking track is an eighth of a mile circuit with four lanes, and the 14,500-square-foot weight, fitness and cardio room has treadmills, ellipticals, AMTs, arch trainers, stationary bikes, upper body ergometers, stepmills, rowers, weight-lifting machines and free weights.

There is a 45-foot climbing wall and a 10-foot bouldering wall, a soccer gym, lap pools, a leisure pool and a spa with whirlpools. The Center also provides equipment rental and a lounge area with televisions and a ping pong table. There’s even a Smoothie King.
