Plascencia is a visual artist and educator whose creative work explores the constructive nature of identity, the conflict that individuals face building their identities, and the duality between domesticity and utilitarianism, personal and communal, and self and society.

Plascencia comes to UNT CVAD from the Memphis College of Art where he was the director of MFA programs and the studio graduate area head. He attended the Escuela de Artes Plasticas “Ruben Herrera” in Saltillo, Mexico before immigrating to the USA. He holds an MFA in Photography & Media Arts from the University of Colorado, Boulder and a BFA in Photography from the University of Texas at Arlington. Plascencia's work has been shown nationally and internationally at locations including Instituto Fotografico de Medellin, The International Center of Bethlehem, The Polytechnic University of Valencia, and Academia de Bellas Artes San Carlos.
