M. Rousset Wins C-USA Spirit Of Service Honors

DALLAS – North Texas swim and dive senior Meaghan Rousset was named as a recipient of the Air Force Reserve Conference USA Winter Spirit of Service award the conference office announced on Wednesday.

It is her first time winning the award and she is the lone representative from North Texas. Rousset exemplifies service outside of her sport, spending time giving back to the Denton community and to other students on campus.

"Meaghan has been a leader since she stepped foot on this campus," head coach Brittany Roth said. "She has always looked out for her teammates, and she embodies the work ethic and character we desire for each of our student-athletes. I am so proud of her efforts, and her service to others."

Rousset will graduate in May with a B.S. in Biology and a minor in chemistry with honors and boasts a 4.0 GPA. She is also on the pre-med track. During her time in Denton she spent over 140 hours volunteering at the Denton Presbyterian in the emergency room, assisting nurses in tasks ranging from taking vitals to cleaning rooms for the next patient to come in.

"What I was doing wasn't a lot but it was always appreciated," Rousset said. "I really enjoyed it. I just wanted to give back to the Denton community. It was a great learning experience and a really enjoyable one."

She also excelled at organic chemistry and was asked by her professor to help lead study groups for students who were currently taking the class. Rousset spent a couple hours a week helping students in organic chemistry one and two.

Some of her highlights in the pool this year include swimming in her first ever A-Final at the C-USA Championships in the 100 breaststroke while also being a part of two school record setting relay teams (200 medley, 400 medley). She was also honored for her success in the classroom when she was named to the 2019 C-USA All-Academic Team.
