Swim Concludes Historic 2018-2019 Season

CLEVELAND – North Texas swim and dive concluded its record-breaking 2018-2019 season with 11 student-athletes competing at the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America National Invitational Championship. The Mean Green finished 17th out of 48 team with a total of 178 points.

"This meet was a celebration of the hard work our athletes have put in and the success they've achieved along the way," head coach Brittany Roth said.

The Mean Green competed in 21 events across the three-day event that began on Thursday, March 14.

Thursday's finals saw two swimmers compete in the A-Final of their event, seniors Brittany Thurstin in the 50-yard fly, and Meaghan Rousset in the 50-yard breaststroke.

Thurstin finished fifth in the 50-yard butterfly A-Final with a time of 24.40, dropping from her 24.50 time she recorded in prelims. The race was the last individual race final of Thurstin's North Texas career, she will leave the program holding the school record in the event (22.79).

Fellow senior Meghan Roussett finished sixth in the 50-yard breaststroke A-Final with a time of 28.60. She joined the top-six swimmers who all beat the original CSCAA meet record that was set in 2018 (28.74).

North Texas broke another school record in the meet. The 400 Medley Relay team of Roussett and fellow senior Emmabeth Jensen along with junior Jowita Sienczyk and sophomore Leigh Faires McGee broke the original record time of 3:41.25 set in 2012 by turning in a time of 3:40.92.

"I loved getting to coach these seniors for one last meet," Roth said. "Our underclassmen also added to their swimming maturation and knowledge base to help carry them into our future seasons."

North Texas swim and dive broke seven school records, finishing in their highest place at the C-USA championships (third) and achieving the highest winning percentage in program history. Roth was named Conference USA Co-Coach of the Year for the first time in her career.

"These seniors will be greatly missed," Roth said. "This team will be one that holds a special place in my heart."
