Scholarships

The Department of Kinesiology, Health Promotion, and Recreation offers a number of scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students.

There are also a number of scholarships available to all students in the College of Education.

College of Education Scholarships

The following scholarships are awarded by the Kinesiology, Health Promotion, and Recreation Scholarship Committee:

Beulah Ann Harriss - Delta Psi Kappa Scholarship

Purpose: To provide scholarships for undergraduate and graduate Kinesiology, Health Promotion, and Recreation students at the University.

Requirements:

  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the University of North Texas and College of Education in effect at the time of any award;
  2. Be an undergraduate or graduate major in any of the KHPR programs or their successors;
  3. Have junior or senior status according to UNT, if you are an undergraduate applicant.

Don C. Bailey Scholarship

Purpose: To provide scholarships for undergraduate Recreation, Event and Sport Management students at the University.

Requirements:

  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the University of North Texas and College of Education in effect at the time of any award;
  2. Be an undergraduate major in the Recreation, Event and Sport Management program;
  3. Have sophomore, junior or senior status according to UNT;
  4. be a current member of the Recreation and Leisure Studies Society or its successor.

Note:

The applicant should demonstrate evidence of active service in school or community organizations - write about this in the essay part of the application.

Eurice Miller Bass Scholarship

Purpose: To provide scholarships for undergraduate KHPR students who live a healthy lifestyle.

Requirements:

  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the University of North Texas and College of Education in effect at the time of any award;
  2. Maintain full time enrollment at the University, unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full time remaining in their degree program;
  3. Be an undergraduate or graduate major in any of the KHPR programs or their successors;
  4. Sign a statement indicating that in the last 12 months affirming that you have not used unlawful drugs and have not abused alcoholic beverages.

Irma J. Caton Scholarship

Purpose: To provide scholarships for undergraduate and graduate Kinesiology students at the University.

Requirements:

  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the University of North Texas and College of Education in effect at the time of any award;
  2. Be an undergraduate or graduate major in the Kinesiology program.

John Douthitt Memorial Scholarship

Purpose: To provide scholarships for undergraduate and graduate Kinesiology students at the University.

Requirements:

  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the University of North Texas and College of Education in effect at the time of any award;
  2. Be an undergraduate or graduate major in the Kinesiology program.

Kenneth Bahnsen Scholarship

Purpose: To provide scholarships for undergraduate and graduate Kinesiology, Health Promotion, and Recreation students at the University.

Requirements:

  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the University of North Texas and College of Education in effect at the time of any award;
  2. Maintain full time enrollment at the University, unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full time remaining in their degree program;
  3. Be an undergraduate or graduate major in any of the KHPR programs or their successors (preference given to student athletes)

Linda and Philip Dudney Scholarship

Purpose: To provide scholarships for undergraduate and graduate Health Promotion students at the University.

Requirements:

  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the University of North Texas and College of Education in effect at the time of any award;
  2. Be an undergraduate or graduate major in Health Promotion.

Marian C. Keller Scholarship

Purpose: To provide scholarships for undergraduate and graduate Recreation, Event and Sport Management students at the University.

Requirements:

  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the University of North Texas and College of Education in effect at the time of any award;
  2. Be an undergraduate or graduate major in the Recreation, Event and Sport Management program or its successor;
  3. Maintain full time enrollment at the University;
  4. Have a focus in Therapeutic Recreation;
  5. Have at least two (2) semesters remaining in the program.

Note:

Undergraduate applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher with a Recreation, Event and Sport Management GPA of 2.75 or greater.

Graduate applicants must a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, and a Recreation, Event and Sport Management GPA of 3.0 or higher, or if a new student, a GPA higher than 2.75.

Morrow Family Scholarship

Purpose: To provide scholarships for excelling undergraduate and graduate Kinesiology students at the University.

Requirements:

  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the University of North Texas and College of Education in effect at the time of any award;
  2. Be an undergraduate or graduate major in the Kinesiology program;
  3. Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Rick Herold Parks & Recreation Scholarship

Purpose: A scholarship in honor of Rick Herold, intended for graduate or undergraduate students pursuing a degree in Recreation, Event and Sport Management.

Requirements:

  1. Maintain full time enrollment as established by the University, unless the student is nearing completion of their degree program and does not need full time enrollment;
  2. Must be pursuing a degree in Recreation, Event, and Sport Management;
  3. Must maintain a 3.25 (for undergraduates) or 3.75 (for graduate students) GPA at the University;
  4. Demonstrate commitment to the profession through service to the University or the community, with special preference to students with service to the municipal sector.

 

 

Rita Pilkey Scholarship

Purpose: To provide scholarships for undergraduate and graduate Recreation, Event and Sport Management students at the University.

Requirements:

  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the University of North Texas and College of Education in effect at the time of any award;
  2. Be an undergraduate or graduate major in the Recreation, Event and Sport Management program or its successor;
  3. If an undergraduate applicant, have at least 74 hours toward your degree, and at two consecutive semesters as a Recreation, Event and Sport Management major.

The Delmark Scholarship for Recreation

Purpose: To provide scholarships for graduate Recreation, Event and Sport Management students at the University.

Requirements:

  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the University of North Texas and College of Education in effect at the time of any award;
  2. Be a graduate major in the Recreation, Event and Sport Management program or its successor;
  3. Have a focus in Recreation Program Management;
  4. Maintain a 3.0 GPA.

The Peggy Richardson Scholarship

Purpose: To provide scholarships for undergraduate and graduate Kinesiology students at the University.

Requirements:

  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the University of North Texas and College of Education in effect at the time of any award;
  2. Maintain full time enrollment at the University, unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full time remaining in their degree program;
  3. Be an undergraduate or graduate major in the Kinesiology program.

Victor & Flo Rodriguez Future Coaches Scholarship

Purpose: A scholarship in honor of Victor & Flo Rodriguez, intended for student-athletes pursuing a career in athletic coaching.

Requirements:

  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the College of education in effect at the time of any award;
  2. Maintain full time enrollment in the College of Education as established by the University, unless the student is nearing completion of their degree program and does not need full time enrollment;
  3. Preference will be given to a current student-athlete as certified by the Athletic Director, who maintains a 2.5 minimum GPA and is pursuing a career in athletic coaching;
  4. In the event no applicant possesses these characteristics, students enrolling full-time in the COE will be eligible for consideration.
