Your Future with a B.A.A.S.

Not everyone takes the same path to earning their bachelor’s degree. Whether you already have a technical certification or need to go back to school to complete your degree, the Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences (B.A.A.S.) provides you with a direct path to a bachelor’s degree. By accepting many workforce/technical /military credits, the B.A.A.S. maximizes your number of credit hours towards your degree.

This program is ideal for:

• Active-duty military or veterans seeking college credit for courses taken as part of their training in the service
• Students interested in developing multiple areas of expertise
• Students who have accumulated a significant number of credit hours
• Transfer students wanting credit for workforce or technical courses taken at a community or technical college

For your convenience, B.A.A.S. courses are offered online and at multiple UNT locations, including the UNT flagship campus in Denton, the UNT New College facility in Frisco, and the Collin Higher Education Center (CHEC) in McKinney.

What we offer

The B.A.A.S. degree program accepts and builds on technical, applied or military credits, combining them with coursework intended to meet your individual goals.

A skilled advisor will help you select three concentration areas that will build on your prior educational and work experience, helping you prepare future career goals.

At UNT’s New College at Frisco and the Collin Higher Education Center, students can choose from professional development concentrations in:

• Business Management
• Business Marketing
• Communications
• Consumer Experience
• Hospitality
• Journalism
• Kinesiology
• Psychology
• Recreation, Event and Sport Management
• Youth Sports

Other concentrations are available online and in Denton. In addition to the selected concentrations, all Applied Arts and Sciences majors take three courses that focus on comprehensive skills and career preparation.

What to expect

The B.A.A.S. degree consists of 120 college credit hours. The degree requires:

• 42 hours of academic foundation courses
• 12 hours of general electives
• 66 hours of major requirements

Within the major requirements, you will complete:

• 9 hours of professional foundation courses
• 21 hours of occupational specialization, which typically consists of field-specific coursework already completed at your community college
• 36 hours of professional development concentrations, which serve to enhance the skills you have already acquired through prior training and experience

Career opportunities for B.A.A.S. graduates vary as much as their paths to earning the degree. Whether you want to advance your career or start a new one, you’ll graduate with an array of skills you need to compete in today’s ever-changing workplace. Many program graduates work in business, state and local government, nonprofit agencies or a wide range of fields directly associated with the specializations they pursued.

How to enroll at UNT

High school students

Get detailed information on recognized high school graduation programs and SAT/ACT requirements.

In your senior year, apply for admission at ApplyTexas.org by the March 1 priority date and request that your high school transcript be sent to the UNT admissions office. Do you live out of state? For your convenience, you can apply through the Common Application.

Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate courses can count toward college credit at UNT.

Transfer students

If you're attending a Texas community college, you should consult our online transfer guides, the UNT Undergraduate Catalog and an academic counselor to review your degree plan. Proper planning will allow you to receive the maximum amount of transfer credits.
