Woolridge, Gibson Voted All-Conference

DALLAS — For the first time in nine years, the North Texas men's basketball team had multiple players selected to an all-conference honor.

The Mean Green's Ryan Woolridge was voted Conference USA All-Conference Third-Team and Umoja Gibson was voted to the league's all-freshman team. This is the first all-conference honor for both the junior Woolridge and the redshirt freshman Gibson.

"I'm very thankful for the coaches and voters who recognized me," Woolridge said. "It's a tremendous honor as our league has many great players."

When voting began for all-conference, Woolridge was the only player in C-USA averaging more than 12 points, five rebounds and five assists per game. He is also the only player in the league to record a triple-double this season. He had 12 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists at Indiana State on Dec. 5 in the Mean Green's 11-point win.

In 2010, North Texas, which reached the NCAA Tournament that season, had four all-conference selections — George Odufuwa, Eric Tramiel, Tristan Thompson and Josh White. This is the second consecutive season the Mean Green have had an all-conference selection and the second time in three years UNT has had a player named to the all-freshman team.

Gibson is just the fifth UNT player ever to earn an honor to the all-freshman team but the third in the last five years.

"After all I went through last season with my injury it feels really good to know my hard work has been noticed," Gibson said. "It's a great honor to be thought of as one of the best young bucks in our conference."

Gibson enters the C-USA Championship having made 91 three-pointers this year. It's the second-most in school-history for a single-season behind his teammate Roosevelt Smart who made 133 last year. The 91 are the fourth-most in C-USA but the most by a league freshman. His 39.6 three-point field goal percentage is eighth-best in the league overall.

North Texas faces Florida International in then first round of the 2019 Air Force Reserve Conference USA Men's Basketball Championship presented by Baylor Scott & White Sports Performance Center on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. CT at the Star in Frisco. The game will be aired on ESPN+ and the Mean Green Sports Radio Network.
