Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

Our faculty research interests are in biochemistry, molecular genetics, systems biology, developmental biology, cell biology, metabolism, and organism interactions with the environment in microbial, plant and animal systems. We're equipped with state-of-the-art growth facilities and instrumentation for in depth study of functional genomics, gene discovery, metabolomics, protein/nucleic acid structure and function, and molecular and cellular imaging.

We offer students the opportunity to conduct research in aquatic biology, aquatic toxicology, ecology, forensic biology, genetics, limnology, microbiology, neurobiology, physiology, and plant biology.

Chemistry

Our degree programs emphasize independent research in an area of chemistry. Our research interests span the traditional areas of analytical, inorganic, organic, physical, and chemical education. However, many new frontiers fall at the intersections of 2 or more of these areas. As a result, interdisciplinary studies are encouraged. Many of our faculty also collaborate in computational, materials, forensics, and organometallic chemistry.

Environmental Science

Our graduate program specializes in a diverse group of research areas, biology, geography, philosophy, and computer science. By the end of their degree program, students are expected to become independent researchers in human-environmental interactions.

Our degree programs are designed to provide you with mastery in several major areas of mathematics while specializing in a specific research area. Our faculty research interests include algebra, applied mathematics, combinatorics, differential equations, dynamical systems, logic and foundations, functional analysis, geometry, number theory, probability and statistics, and real and complex analysis.

More than 60 full-time physics graduate students conduct research under the supervision of about 20 faculty members, making the our graduate program one of the largest in Texas. You'll have the opportunity to train with state-of-the-art equipment in modern research laboratories.
