Dr. Song Fu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of North Texas. He is the Director of the Dependable Computing Systems Lab (DCS). He was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology from 2008 to 2010. He obtained the Ph.D. degree in Computer Engineering from Wayne State University, Detroit Michigan, in 2008. His research interest is primarily in parallel, distributed and IoT-edge-cloud systems, including architecture, resilience, dependability, and resource management. His research has been supported in part by funding from the National Science Foundation, Department of Energy, Amazon, Cisco, Nvidia and University of North Texas.

 News

  • Our project on self-driving cars and edge computing attracted media coverage: NTTV Denton Record-Chronicle, KRLD Radio, UNT News, and UNT CENG.
  • A project on vehicular edge computing and security was funded by NSF, January 2019.
  • George and Zongze will join Los Alamos National Lab as research interns in the summer of 2019.
  • A paper on cooperative perception for connected autonomous vehicles was accepted by the 39th IEEE International Conference on Distributed Computing Systems (ICDCS 2019).
  • A recent work on embedded deep learning for vehicular edge computing will be presented in ACM/IEEE Symposium on Edge Computing (SEC 2018).
  • Awarded a research grant from LANL for developing system monitoring and analytics system, May 2018.
  • A collaborative paper on characterizing interconnect errors was accepted by IEEE International Conference on Dependable Systems and Networks (DSN 2018).
  • Awarded a research grant from LANL for developing resilient parallel file system, March 2018.


Research Interests

As parallel and distributed computing systems become more and more large-scale and complex, new foundations are needed for understanding and controlling their integral properties. Dr. Fu’s research is dedicated to the investigation, establishment, and experimental evaluation of new theoretical foundations and system artifacts to significantly improve the system resilience, power & energy, and performance. His research interest is primarily in parallel, distributed and cloud systems, including
