Records

1) How do I view my final grades for the term?

Final grades are generally posted the Wednesday after the end of the term. Grades for individual sessions (3W1, 5W1, 8W1, 5W2, 8W2, 10W) are posted at the end of the long term when all grades are declared official. Please note, grades for individual sessions are not printed on the official transcript until all grades are declared official for the term.
You can view your final grades for the term through your MyUNT portal. Within the Student Center, final grades can be viewed on your unofficial transcript or the View Grades tab.

2) How do I update my personal information?

To update your personal/biographical information, the Registrar’s Office will require identifying documentation and a record change request. For more information on the record change process and to obtain a copy of the Change or Correct Records form, please visit:

https://registrar.unt.edu/transcripts-and-records/update-your-personal-information

3) What are excessive hours?

Texas Education Code § 54.014 specifies that resident undergraduate students who initially enrolled fall 1999 and later may be subject to a higher tuition rate for attempting excessive hours at any public institution of higher education while classified as a resident student for tuition purposes. Beginning with Fall 2007, UNT undergraduate students who are classified as Texas Residents and those who pay in state tuition rates will be subject to an additional excessive hours tuition rate. For more detailed information about excessive hours, please visit:

https://registrar.unt.edu/registration/excessive-hours or stop by the Registrar’s Office located in the ESSC, Room 209.

4) What is the difference between my cumulative GPA and my overall GPA?

Your overall GPA includes all course work taken at both UNT and any transfer institutions. It can be accessed by reviewing your degree audit through the MyUNT Student Center. Your cumulative GPA can be seen on your unofficial UNT transcript and only includes course work taken at UNT.

5) I submitted a transcript from another university. How can I confirm that UNT received the transcript?

Once your transcript from another institution has been received and processed by UNT, you will be able to see the institution name and course work listed on your unofficial UNT transcript located in your MyUNT portal.

6) If I send my AP/CLEP/IB scores to UNT, how long does it take for the credit to be added to my record?

When you send official test scores to the Registrar’s Office, they must be evaluated before they are posted to your official record. This can take additional time after scores have been mailed. To verify if scores have been received, please contact the Registrar’s Office at 940-565-2369 or registrar.records@unt.edu.

7) What happens if I repeat a course?

UNT does have policies that allow you to repeat previous courses taken at UNT and other institutions. For detailed information on which courses can be duplicated and the duplication process, please check with your academic advisor.

8) I am considering taking a course at another university. Will the credits transfer?

For the most accurate information regarding which courses will transfer to UNT and apply to your degree plan, check with your academic advisor. Once you have completed courses at an outside institution, have an official transcript sent to the UNT Registrar’s Office to make sure your credit is added to your official record.

9) How do I transfer a course taken at another university to UNT?

To transfer course work to UNT from another institution, you must submit an official transcript from that institution to UNT. Transcripts may be submitted in the following ways:

  • The transfer institution may mail an official transcript to the following address:

    University of North Texas
    Registrar's Office
    1155 Union Circle #311400
    Denton, Texas 76203-1400

  • The transfer institution may send the transcript via an electronic transcript service to registrar@unt.edu.
  • You can hand-deliver the transcript in a sealed envelope to the Registrar’s Office located in the ESSC, Room 209.

10) I think my instructor assigned me the wrong final grade. How do I get this changed?

If you feel there has been an error with a final grade after posting, the instructor of the course is generally the best starting point to have the change initiated. If a change is to be made, the instructor will submit a grade change request to the Registrar’s Office. Grade change requests are usually completed 1-2 business days after they have been received by the Registrar's Office.

11) How do I view my unofficial transcript?

You can view your unofficial transcript through the Student Center in the MyUNT portal. Once in the Student Center, select the My Academics link from the right side of the page underneath the Academics section. On the next page select the link for view unofficial transcript. You will be required to fill in two drop down boxes including the institution and the transcript type. Once filled in, select "go" and your unofficial transcript should appear in the same window.

Registration

1) What does Department Consent mean?

This enrollment error message means you will need to contact the department of the course and request permission to enroll in the class.  If permission is granted, a permission number will be given and can be used to enroll in the course.

2) I have met the prerequisites for this class, but it’s not letting me enroll. Who do I need to talk to?

Contact the Registrar’s Office via registrar@unt.edu or phone at 940-565-2378.

3) I have a hold on my account for advising. Where is my advising office?

Your advising office is in the College of your major.  Your major can be found by going to the Student Center via my.unt.edu and clicking on Academics.

4) I have a hold on my account. What does that mean? How do I clear the hold?

You can view any holds on your account via the my.unt.edu portal.  The Student Center page lists active holds. Some holds will block your ability to register for class. Other holds, such as the Student Financial Obligation Hold, you can clear yourself. Additionally, holds such as, Advising Required, require you to take action as detailed in the hold itself. It is important to visit this section before attempting registration.

5) How do I drop a class?

Please refer to the academic calendar for the current semester located at my.unt.edu or catalog.unt.edu to determine which procedure to follow.

If you are dropping before the census date:
Students who wish to drop a course before the 12th class day of fall or spring terms/semesters or before the equivalent dates for 8 week and summer sessions may do so from their student portal at my.unt.edu or at the Registrar's Office 1st floor location, ESSC, Room 147.  Please note that students wishing to drop the last class on their schedule for the session or term must complete a withdrawal with the Dean of Students.

If you are dropping after the census date:
After the 12th class day for fall or spring terms/semesters, or the equivalent date for 8 week and summer sessions, students must first submit a completed Request to Drop Class form to the Registrar's Office.  Students applying for financial aid are required to notify Student Financial Aid and Scholarships before dropping any class to learn how it will affect current or future financial aid eligibility.

Students who drop a course between the 12th day of class and the designated day of a given semester's 10th week for fall or spring terms/semesters or the equivalent dates for 8 week and summer sessions, will receive a grade of W.

6) How do I withdraw from all of my classes?

To withdraw from all classes during a session/term, contact the Dean of Students office at 940-565-3633.  You may also visit their office on campus in Sage Hall, Room 110.

7) What are the different sessions?

The academic year includes three terms/semesters: fall, spring and summer. During each term, a number of sessions are scheduled.

Fall Sessions include:  Fall (full term), 8W1 (eight week one, GRAD only), 8W2 (eight week two, GRAD only).

Spring Sessions include: 3W1 (winter session), Spring (full term), 8W1 (eight week one, GRAD only), 8W2 (eight week two, GRAD only).

8) How will drops affect my financial aid?

Dropping classes or failing to complete and pass registered hours may make you ineligible for financial aid. You must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements to maintain eligibility for financial aid as defined by the UNT Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships. For more information on UNT's SAP policies, please visit financialaid.unt.edu/sap.

9) How does a “W” affect my GPA?

A “W” grade is non-punitive and will not affect your GPA.  The course and “W” will appear on your transcript.

Waitlist

1) How do I know a class has a waitlist?

If a class is full and a waitlist is available, the class status displays as a yellow triangle and the class details display the waitlist capacity. If a class is full and there is no waitlist, the class status displays as a blue box and the class details display the waitlist capacity as zero.

2) How am I added to a waitlist?

If a class is full and a waitlist is available, the class status displays as a yellow triangle. Select the class, check the box to "Waitlist if class is full”, then continue enrolling.

3) How do I know if I have been successfully added to the waitlist?

You can view your waitlisted classes on your class schedule via my.unt.edu.

4) Is there a limit to the number of classes that can be waitlisted?

You may waitlist up to 9 credit hours during the regular Fall and Spring term and 4 credit hours during a 3 week session. Please note: Regardless of how many units you are waitlisted for, you will not be enrolled in classes beyond the maximum number of credit hours permitted for the term.

5) Are the waitlisted courses counted in my total credit hours for the term?

Waitlisted courses are not counted toward full time status or calculated in bills.

6) Can I waitlist in more than one section of the same class?

Yes, you can waitlist for multiple sections of the same class. The waitlist process will enroll you in the section that has the first available seat.

If you are already enrolled in a section of a class and you want to be on the waitlist of another section, use the "SWAP" feature.

7) Can I remain enrolled in my current section but waitlist for a different section?

If you wish to remain enrolled in your current section until space becomes available in the closed section, enroll in the waitlisted section using the “SWAP” feature.

8) Can I waitlist for a class that conflicts in meeting times with a class that I’m already enrolled in?

Yes, you can waitlist for time conflicted classes, but you will not be moved off of the waitlist regardless of your position number until the time conflict has been resolved and you are in the first position in the list. If you wish to remain enrolled in your current course until space becomes available in the closed course, enroll using the “SWAP” feature.

9) When should I use the “SWAP” feature to enroll in a waitlisted class?

"SWAP" allows you to remain in one class while waitlisted in a second class. If you are enrolled from the waitlist, the original class will be dropped. "SWAP" should be used in the following scenarios:

  • If you are already enrolled in another section of the class for which you wish to waitlist.
  • If you have a time conflict between an enrolled section and the class section for which you want to waitlist.
  • If you are already enrolled in the maximum number of credit hours for a term and want to still get on a waitlist.

10) What will prevent me from using the Waitlist function?

You may not be able to use the waitlist function if:

  • You have not met the prerequisites for the class or Department Consent is required.
  • A registration hold is on your account.
  • Your Enrollment appointment has not arrived.
  • The last day to waitlist for classes has passed.
  • You have reached the maximum number of waitlisted credit hours.
  • You are already enrolled in a section of the class (use SWAP).
  • You are already on the waitlist for that class section.
  • The waitlist capacity for this class has been met.
  • The class is still open.

11) How often does the system check for open seats in waitlisted classes?

The waitlist process is scheduled to run three times a day - 7 a.m., 2 p.m., and 11 p.m. The class will remain closed even when there are open seats until after the waitlist process has completed. If there are no students on the waitlist, the class will reopen after the process is complete. If there are students on the waitlist, the next student on the list will be enrolled in the class and the class will remain closed.

12) I was in position number 1 on a waitlist; why wasn’t I enrolled when a seat opened?

The requirements to be moved off of a waitlist are the same as standard enrollment:

  • You will not be enrolled in more units than permitted in that term.
  • You will not be enrolled if you have not met the prerequisites for that class.
  • You will not be enrolled if you have any registration holds.
  • You will not be enrolled in a class if it conflicts with meeting times on another class in which you are enrolled.

13) Can I take myself off of a waitlist?

Yes, you may remove yourself from a waitlist by following the same process used for a standard drop.

14) What is the first day I can get on a waitlist?

Waitlists are only available once the class has reached its enrollment capacity. For high-demand classes, this may be the first day of registration; for other classes, this may be as late as the Add/Drop period.

15) What is the last day I can get on a waitlist?

Students can add themselves to waitlists through the last day of the Add/Drop period.

16) How will I know when I am enrolled in the waitlisted class?

If you are enrolled in a course from the waitlist, you will be notified via your UNT EagleConnect email account.  To view courses that are waitlisted, you will choose the Show Waitlisted Classes box on your class schedule.  This will also show your position on the waitlist.

As long as you are on a waitlist, you should monitor your class schedule frequently.

Remember being on a waitlist does NOT guarantee an eventual enrollment into the section. When the start of the term approaches, it is recommended that you check with your advising office for options to ensure your enrollment.
