Grad Track Program

What is the "Grad Track"?

The Grad Track is a program option for undergraduates planning ahead for a graduate program, who also wish to earn a Master's degree in Library Science or Information Science.  A student admitted in the Grad Track program may enroll in a maximum of nine semester credit hours of graduate level Information or Library Science courses while completing the bachelor's of science degree in Information Science. The credits earned will count first toward the BS in INSC and then the MSIS or the MSLS degree program.

Benefits of Grad Track and Graduate Study

  1. Shortens the time and expense to complete the Master of Science programs from 36 credit hours to 27 credit hours.
  2. Prepares the student for the rigors of graduate-level coursework while still an undergraduate.
  3. Provides uninterrupted continuity of the knowledge gained as an undergraduate to graduate-level courses.
  4. Provides an accelerated path to employment as an Information Science or Library Science professional.

Admission Requirements for the Grad Track Program

  1. Applicants for the Grad Track option should be students in the UNT College of Information pursuing the Bachelor of Science in Information Science (BS INSC) degree.
  2. A student may apply for the grad track option during his/her junior year (and must have completed at least 75 credit hours at the time of application to grad track).
  3. Minimum of 3.5 cumulative GPA required at the time of application submission.
  4. The student will provide two recommendation forms from Information Science faculty members who can evaluate the student's ability to complete graduate level work.
  5. The application will be reviewed by the COI advising and admissions student support services office and the undergraduate and graduate advisors.

Once approved, the student must apply to the Toulouse Graduate School within the first semester of the senior year. See the Graduate School admission requirements at Graduate Admissions for details.
