As a depository for U.S. federal and Texas state publications, the UNT Libraries’ Government Documents Department provides reference assistance to UNT students, faculty, and staff, as well as to the general public.
Assistance Provided
Assistance can be provided in person, over the telephone, through E-mail, or through snail mail.
We can provide you with the following types of reference assistance:
- Strategies and sources for finding information on a specific topic
- Information about indexes, online databases, and other research tools
- Information about the Libraries’ holdings

We cannot provide legal, medical, business, or tax advice, nor do we provide statistical data over the phone or through e-mail; but we can direct you to the appropriate sources of such information.
How to Get Help
If you need assistance with finding or using government information, please visit the Service Desk in the Eagle Commons Library during regular hours, contact us by phone (940) 565-4745), or send a request online to govinfo@unt.edu.
If you need extensive, in-depth assistance, we recommend that you E-mail us or call the ECL Service Desk at (940) 565-2870 to make an appointment with a member of our staff.
Government Information Online (GIO) is a free online information service supported by nearly twenty public, state and academic libraries throughout the United States. Through GIO you can ask for government information from librarians who are experts at finding information from government agencies of all levels (local, state, regional, national international) on almost any subject from aardvarks to zygomycosis.
