Resources

Whether you are competing at the youth, high school, college, elite, or professional level, sport psychology skills and strategies should be a foundational part of your training, enjoyment, and performance success. Thus, we provide a wide range of FREE sport psychology resources that you can use to develop your mental skills and become a more consistent performer.

As a coach, you understand that sport performances result from a combination of excellence in four important areas: technique, physical conditioning, tactics/strategies, and mental readiness. And when athletes and teams fall short in any one of these areas, their overall performance is likely to suffer. Some coaches, though, may be unsure what they can do to directly improve their athletes’ mental toughness or their team’s cohesion, confidence, and communication.

As a parent, you want to see your children have fun and improve their skills in whatever sport they have chosen to play. But the longer your children are involved in sport and the more advanced they become, the pressure to win, play on select teams, and chase financial dreams can take over and overwhelm them. Whether your children are just starting out and playing in youth leagues, have made a select team as an adolescent, have received a college athletic scholarship, or are competing at the elite/professional level, you will have a tremendous influence on how they experience sport.

Physical therapy is standard for post-ACL surgical rehabilitation, though such protocols normally do NOT address directly athletes’ psychological responses to the injury, surgery, and recovery.  In fact, most athletes, at some point during their injury and/or post-surgery, will experience a range of emotional responses, including anxiety, depression, tension, irritability, loss of confidence, and loss of self-esteem.  Such emotional reactions can negatively affect the athletes’ overall psychological well-being as well as their physical healing and rehabilitation.

In this section we provide a series of free sport psychology tips that will help you prepare psychologically and assist you in dealing with the reactions you may have just prior to (and during) the race itself. You can download, print, and share these with your running partners. Each Monday, we will post a new tip!
