Faculty Positions in Data Science

The Department of Information Science in the College of Information at the University of North Texas (UNT) is seeking candidates for a faculty position in Data Science at the rank of full/associate/assistant professor.
Job Description: The Data Science programs at UNT are designed to meet the increasing demands for Data Science and Data Analytics professionals. The department currently offers a Master of Science degree in Data Science and a concentration in Data Science in the Information Science PhD program.
Candidates should have a solid background and expertise in Data Science, anchored in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines, including big data, data analytics, learning analytics, data/information visualization, data mining, machine learning, data modeling, informetrics, natural language processing, and information retrieval. All candidates should have a demonstrated willingness to engage in high quality research and have an aptitude for undergraduate-, graduate- and doctoral-level teaching. The position requires a commitment to teaching, scholarly research resulting in high-quality publications and presentations, sustained service to the department and college, and academic advisement.
Minimum Qualifications: This position requires a Ph. D. degree in Data Science, Information Science, Computer Science or a closely related field and preferably significant industry experience or previous work in Data Science related areas. Teaching and research experience is required for full/associate professor candidates.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with a strong record of funded scholarly research and publication.
Salary and benefits: Faculty appointments are for nine months with opportunities for summer teaching. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. A choice of retirement plans and employer-funded health insurance is available.

Assistant Professor/ Associate Professor - Youth Librarianship

Job Summary: The Department of Information Science at the University of North Texas (UNT) is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Professor (tenure track) or Associate Professor. The successful candidate will teach, conduct research, contribute service, provide leadership for the youth librarianship program, and develop close relationships with practitioners in the field. The selected candidate will work closely with the College of Information faculty, advise master's and doctoral students, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and advise students enrolled in the youth librarianship program. 

The College of Information at UNT is an iSchool. According to the most recent Carnegie Classification, UNT ranks as a top-tier research university. We seek candidates that are dedicated to education, who will promote the university, college, and department's research agenda by supporting and building upon our vision of research and scholarly excellence. The successful candidate will also: 
- Design courses and programming related to children and youth services 
- Be an integral part of the faculty governance and develop community relations 
- Design and implement research experiences for students. 
- Participate in professional organizations at the state, national, and international levels 

Minimum Qualifications: The minimum requirement for appointment is an earned doctorate in library science, information science, or other related field at the time of appointment. 

The program of study focuses on developing skills and competencies in the following areas: the history of youth information services and systems, knowledge of the children and youth, administrative and managerial skills, communications skills, materials and collection development, reference services, programming skills, technology applications, advocacy, public relations and networking, professionalism, and professional development. The program seeks candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas: literature for children and young adults, formal and informal learning environments, multiple literacies, youth information seeking, computational thinking, library and information services for children and youth, digital youth, research, and evidence-based practice research. Candidates with related research experiences and research are encouraged to apply. 
Candidates will demonstrate evidence of effective teaching, research, and scholarship with experience and expertise in the broad area of information science and the specific area of youth librarianship.
