Softball Ties Program Record For Wins

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – North Texas softball reached 30 wins for the second time ever with a win in game one over UAB on Saturday. North Texas (31-16, 16-4)) defeated the Blazers (15-30, 5-15) in game two by the same score. Hannah Gerecke led the way offensively for North Texas going 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Head coach Rodney DeLong continues to find a new way to re-write record books in his first season at North Texas. The Mean Green also have set a new high mark in Conference USA wins at 16.

"We control our destiny in the conference now," DeLong said. "I'm not surprised by any of the success. I think that's going to be the standard here for our progam now."

Trautwein retired nine-straight batters in her complete game win in which she struck out three allowing just five hits and an earned run. Her offense provided just enough initially to get the Mean Green ahead.

The scoring started in the second when Gerecke drove in Rhylie Makawe with a sac-fly. Hanna Rebar laid a perfect sac-bunt down to move the runners from first and second into scoring position. Trautwein then locked down the Blazers. North Texas picked up two important insurance runs in the seventh.

Katie Clark doubled home Sally Gastelo before scoring. Clark stole third and came home on a bad throw to make the score 3-0. The Blazers picked up a run in the home half of the seventh, but that would be all.

The Blazers answered in the home half driving a run home with a sac-fly to left cutting the lead in half. North Texas answered with a quick run in the fifth when Lacy Gregory laid down a bunt to move the runners, but after a collision at first base Gastelo came home to make it 3-1.

Tindell pitched well going the distance for North Texas. She finished with just two hits allowed and striking out two.

"She carried her performance into the weekend," DeLong said. "She pitched to contact very well. She did a great job today as did Hope."
