Concussions

Sports Medicine

A concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury. It follows a force to the head or body and leads to a change in brain function. It is not typically accompanied by loss of consciousness.

UNT Sports Medicine recognizes that sport-induced concussions pose a significant health risk and want student-athletes to be educated regarding concussions. Baseline neurocognitive testing pre- and post-injury provide significant data for return to competition decisions. This baseline data, along with physical examination and/or further diagnostic testing, will be used in determining when it is safe for a student-athlete to return to competition.
