Oscar Jose Montero, Jr., runs North Texas athletics' information technology office in his role as Cross Functional IT Support Supervisor.

Montero, originally from El Paso, served in the U.S. Navy from 2007 to 2014. After basic training, he transferred to the Naval Education and Training Command in Pensacola, Florida, where he trained as an aviation electronics technician and was assigned to the Helicopter Anti-submarine Squadron HS-11, Dragon Slayers. He earned the aviation and surface warfare specialist designations and embarked and trained on four supercarriers: USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, USS George H. W. Bush, USS Harry S. Truman, and USS Carl Vinson; and deployed on the USS Enterprise. He was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal three times for professional and leadership achievement, the Humanitarian Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the expert pistol marksmanship ribbon.

After an honorable discharge from the Navy, Montero in 2014 came to UNT and worked in Administrative Information Technology Services for the Housing/Dining/AUX Services before moving over to athletics in 2015.

His education includes an associate's degree in computer application, a bachelor's degree in information technology and a master's degree in information technology with a concentration in project management, all from the American Military University.

Oscar has a family of four: wife Kimberly, daughters Genive and Jezebel, and pup Duchess.
