Eric Capper joined the North Texas athletics staff in 2001 and serves on the senior leadership team as the senior associate director of athletics for communications. Capper oversees the communications and digital media groups while also managing social media and content strategies. Additionally, he is the athletics department official spokesperson.     

Capper and his team are responsible for the publicity efforts of 16 intercollegiate sports at North Texas. He develops strategy and leads execution of external communication and promotion through digital, social and traditional media platforms. Capper and his team have helped heighten the national awareness of North Texas student-athletes, coaches and administrators through various promotional campaigns and award-winning projects. He co-created and served as managing producer for a nationally-televised weekly series “Beyond the Green” which earned Collegiate Athletics Special Feature of the Year by the Sports Video Group in 2014. He led integrated public relations initiatives that helped numerous North Texas student-athletes earn All-America honors and national awards, and he was instrumental in securing North Texas' original television deal with ESPN Regional in the Dallas/Fort Worth market.

Along with his team, Capper has overseen the negotiation process and redesign effort of the official athletics website four times. He worked collaboratively with the athletics marketing team to launch over 25 social media accounts and maintain a brand-consistent social media plan that has seen a consistent growth every year since inception.   

Capper came to North Texas from the Big Sky Conference office, where he was the assistant commissioner for information and media services. He worked as a graduate assistant in the sports information office at the University of Iowa and earned his undergraduate degree from Iowa State University. 

He has been a media assistant for several NCAA and conference championship events, including the NCAA men's Final Four, College World Series and Bowl Championship Series games. He also assisted the North Texas local organizing committee for Super Bowl XLV and the 2015 College Football Playoff National Championship game. He is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics, College Sports Information Directors of America and the National Football Writers Association of America.    

Capper and his wife, Shara, have one son, Casen.
