Kay Johnson starts her 16th year with the University of North Texas Athletic Department. She has worked in various positions within the athletic department but has served as the student-athlete insurance coordinator for the last 13 years.
She earned her associate of arts degree in secretarial science from Eastern New Mexico University and went on to work as a legal assistant for Shell Oil Company and a law firm in West Texas before becoming an administrative assistant/human resources manager for the Toys R Us Distribution Center in Carrollton, Texas. Along the way she did substitute teaching and taught sixth grade for one semester.
At North Texas, Johnson is responsible for gathering student athlete-insurance information and coordinating benefits and payments with the providers.
Kay and her husband, Jeff Johnson, are glad to be Mean Green fans.
