Robinson Tallies Career-High 17 Kills In Loss

MANHATTAN, Kan. - A career-best performance by freshman Rhett Robinson was not enough for North Texas volleyball, which fell to Oregon State 3-0 (22-25, 22-25, 20-25) in the team's final K-State Invitational match on Saturday at the Ahearn Field House.

The Krum, Texas, native compiled a career-high 17 kills on 45 swings, another career best. Sophomore Valerie Valerian joined her in double digits with 13 kills, which ties her season high. Senior Jordyn Williams led the way with a season-high five blocks and added seven kills.

Senior Karley York, who was named to the all-tournament team after averaging 8.5 assists per set, finished the tournament with back-to-back double-doubles with 33 assists and 10 digs on Saturday.

Robinson led a much-improved North Texas (3-7) offense that tallied 15 kills in the opening set. After a timeout called with the score tied 9-9, Robinson had back-to-back kills to fuel a four-point streak and give the Mean Green a 13-9 lead.

Oregon State (6-2) called a timeout after back-to-back errors put North Texas ahead 19-16, but the Beavers closed the set on a 9-3 run to take set one. OSU, who didn't have a block until tying the set at 20-20, had three stops down the stretch to quiet the Mean Green offense.

Williams recorded the second of her three blocks in set two during a 3-0 run to pull North Texas within two at 18-16. The Beavers responded by scoring four straight before a block and a kill for Williams trimmed the deficit back to two, but OSU held off a comeback with two late kills.

The Beavers started hot for the second straight set, jumping out to an 11-6 lead before Valerian posted three-straight kills and led a 6-0 run to take a 12-11 lead. After four tie scores and two lead changes, OSU pulled away and ended the match on a 9-3 run to seal the win.
