Scott Runs To UNT Record In 400

COLLEGE STATION – Aneesa Scott of North Texas track and field set a school record in the 400-meter dash while a pair of Mean Green took event titles at the Texas A&M Alumni Muster
Saturday at E.B. Cushing Stadium.

Scott's personal record time of 53.29 moved ahead of the 53.41 ran by Ciara Smith during the 2008 season and captured third place at the meet. Joseph Squire seized the title in the 110-meter hurdles in a personal best 13.97 seconds, and Haley Walker won the discus with a throw of 50.54 meters.

"High winds played havoc with a lot of the events today, but there were some standout performances," director of track and field Carl Sheffield said.

Runner-up finishes for UNT included Jack Beaumont in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a personal record time of 9:20.70, and Rea Iseli in the 1,500 with a finish in 4:31.88.

Walker moved up to number three in the Mean Green hammer charts with a personal record throw of 53.20 meters, improving upon her previous best by over eight meters, to secure third place.  Other third place finishers were Zion Hill in javelin with a toss of 64.94 meters, Valencia Bullock in triple jump at 12.29 for a career best, and the 4x100-meter relay team of Taylor Blackshire, Breanna Eckels, Lyric Choice and Scott in a time of 45.48 seconds.

"It will be nice to have a weekend off. A lot of people have competed 4-5 weeks straight. The time off will allow some to get healthy and prepare for the Conference USA Championships," Sheffield said.

The Mean Green gear up for the C-USA Championships held at Charlotte May 9-12.
