Scope and Contents of the Materials

This collection includes two series that house annual conference programs, board meeting minutes, officer handbooks, and photographs pertaining to the Society of Ethnobiology and its members.  While series one covers the general activities and interests of the Society of Ethnobiology, series two focuses on the personal and professional materials of Eugene Hunn; former Society president, member, and editor of the Journal of Ethnobiology.  The Journal of Ethnobiology, which is referenced often in this collection, can be accessed from The University of North Texas' online library catalog.

Collection Historical Note

Formed in 1977, The Society of Ethnobiology (SoE) is dedicated to the advancement and perpetuation of interdisciplinary research on the interconnectedness of plants, animals and worldwide human cultures. Fields of study include ethnobotany, ethnozoology, zooarchaeology, ethnoecology, biology, anthrobiology, paleoethnobotany, and linguistics. The Society utilizes this research in public outreach at the national, regional, and international scales and is inclusively open to memberships from communities, institutions and individuals. One of their most notable publications, The Journal of Ethnobiology, is accessible in its entirety on The University of North Texas’ library website. Other publications and awards include Contributions in Ethnobiology, Ethnobiology Letters, the Distinguished Ethnobiologist, Best Poster, Barbara Lawrence and the Undergraduate Ethnobiologist Award. The organization is administrated by a group of elected officers and is registered in Arizona, U.S.
