DENTON — The North Texas tennis team lost 6-1 at home Thursday afternoon to SMU in the final match of the season. 

The Mean Green (11-10) conclude the regular season with an 8-5 record at home. It's the 11th time in head coach Sujay Lama's 13 years as UNT's head coach that they had a winning record at home. 

However, Thursday was just not the Mean Green's day.

Playing in her final home match, senior Tamuna Kutubidze picked up the lone win for North Texas with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 win at the No. 2 position in the singles lineup. The win improves her season singles record to 13-5 and her overall career record to 68-35. 

Kutubidze and her doubles partner Maria Kononova won their fourth straight doubles match and improved to 12-1 on the year with a 6-4 victory at the top of the doubles lineup. Kutubidze and Kononova entered the match as the No. 44 nationally ranked doubles team.

Kutubidze is also the No. 121 ranked singles player. She finishes the regular season ranked in the top 125 for the entire year. 

Kutubidze's singles win and their doubles victory were the only wins over SMU (9-11) on Thursday. 

The Mean Green will leave next week for Houston for the 2019 Conference USA Women's Tennis Championship hosted by Rice. Stay tuned for an official bracket release by the league. The tournament starts April 18 and runs for four straight days. North Texas has advanced past the first round of the conference tournament in 11 straight seasons.
