Swim & Dive Ready For C-USA Championships

ATLANTA – Following one of the most successful meet season's in program history, the North Texas swimming and diving team is set to compete in the Air Force Reserve Conference USA Championship.

Events start Wednesday and will run through Saturday, with preliminaries taking place in the morning and finals following in the evening. Six teams - four-time defending champion Florida International, Florida Atlantic, Marshall, North Texas, Old Dominion and Rice - will compete for the league title at the state-of-the-art swimming facilities on the campus of Georgia Tech.

"When they walk in the building, they have every right to be as confident as they should be," ," head coach Brittany Roth said. "These girls have been doing great all season, going against some heavy hitters in Conference USA and taking them down."

North Texas has already faced Rice in a head-to-head in Denton, and defeated the Owls 169-125, picking up the first win over Rice in six years. In the final double dual-meet of the season, North Texas rounded out the best meet season in program history, finishing at 6-1.

The four-day event opens with two relay finals starting at 3:30 p.m. CT Wednesday and concludes Saturday, March 2, with a full slate of finals. Six programs will compete in 16 championship swimming events and two diving events, with a team champion crowned Saturday evening. Additionally, individual superlative awards (swimmer, diver and coach of the year) will be selected by a vote of the participating head coaches and announced during the post-meet awards, as announced by C-USA.

"This year there has just been this whole cohesive team environment," Roth said. "From day one, the senior class has led the charge and these freshman have stepped right in. This whole team is on a mission. That's the difference from this year to last year."

North Texas will look to improve on a fourth-place finish at the C-USA Championships last season. The Mean Green have placed fourth three years in a row.

The team of Leigh Faires McGeeEmmabeth JensenSara Whelan and Isabelle Morris clocked a time of 3:21.75 in the 400 free relay in last year's championship meet, then the second-fastest in school history. Whelan and Morris have since graduated.
