Mean Green Seize 16 Titles At Little Rock

LITTLE ROCK – North Texas swimming and diving dominated the dual meet at Little Rock as the Mean Green captured titles in each of the 16 events for a team score of 207 compared to 80 from UALR led by four first place finishes by Leigh Faires McGee and Jowita Sienczyk Saturday inside the Donaghey Student Aquatic Center.

"Today we got to see the girls race in their prime events and start the season's journey to conference," Head Coach Brittany Roth said. "We've really been focusing on being better at each outing we get, and there's been a lot to celebrate in just one week's time from the North Texas Relays Meet. It's great to get our first opportunity to race the 200's of strokes and even the 400 IM to give us a base to move forward in our training and future racing."

McGee was the top finisher in the 200 and 500-yard freestyle, and was a member of the first place 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard medley teams. Sienczyk joined her on the relays while also taking top honors in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke.

Emmabeth Jensen came in first in the 100-yard butterfly, 100-yard freestyle, and the 200-yard freestyle relay, as Brittany Thurstin also took home a trio of titles in the 50-yard freestyle and both relays. Other Mean Green first place finishes included: Averie Ruiz (3-meter diving), Karigan Stanley (400-yard IM, 200-yard butterfly), Jordan Gorham (1000-yard freestyle), Brooke Beddingfield (100-yard breaststroke, 400-yard medley relay), Meghan Miller (1-meter diving), and Ula Michalczyk (200-yard breastroke).

"Karigan Stanley continued to show her range in her strong performances in the 200 Fly and 400 IM. Averie Ruiz and Meghan Miller showed what a dynamic duo they are by each picking up a W on each board. Leigh Faires McGee picked up two wins in the events she's really fine tuning and focusing on. Jowita Sienczyk is on track to have a strong year in backstroke, and EB (Jensen) really came through in her sprints today," said Roth.

"I'm really impressed with our newcomers and how they are handling the college schedule of training and racing; I'm even more impressed with our senior class as they are still finding points within their racing to sharpen," Roth said. "They're really embracing the process and setting our team up for success.
