Softball Falls To Abilene Christian

ABILENE – North Texas softball fell in five innings to Abilene Christian University on Tuesday night.

The Mean Green's (18-12, 7-2) lone run came in the fourth off a RBI single from Hannah Gerecke that drove home Tayla Evans. Bailey Tindell got the start for the Mean Green. She exited the game after 1.2 innings pitched to make way for Jenna Goodrich before re-entering the game. Tindell went two full innings allowing five runs on six hits and was on the hook for the loss.

"We've got to quit looking over at the dugout and just be us," head coach Rodney DeLong said. "Last week we looked over and saw the mighty Sooners, I think this week we took for granted who we were playing. When this group wants to win they go out and play well. When they don't care, I think you get a performance like we got tonight and that's dissapointing."

Goodrich also went two full innings allowing four runs on four hits all earned. Rhylie Makawe had a hit along with Gerecke while Evans went 2-for-2. Makawe and Evans doubled. Makawe was hit by a pitch for the 12th time this season. That adds to her top 15 in the nation hit by pitch per game mark.

Three Wildcats (8-18) went 2-for-3 with three RBI. North Texas is back in Conference USA action with a weekend series against Florida International University. Games get started from Miami with a Saturday double-header. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT.
