Rebar Powers North Texas To First Win In Ruston

RUSTON, La. – An epic comeback highlighted North Texas' softball's Saturday double-header split against Louisiana Tech. The Mean Green (17-11, 6-2) won a wild game one behind three home runs from Hanna Rebar. Rebar became the first player in program history to achieve three home runs in one game. She finished with seven RBI on the day.

The Mean Green tied a program record five home runs set this season against UT – Arlington on February 27. North Texas picked up its first ever win in Ruston coming back from 8-0 down. It's the largest comeback this season.

"That's the kind of hitter she is," head coach Rodney DeLong said. "I think that win will go a long way in the long run. To come back and win that game is tough. We never panicked and the kids stayed up."

North Texas dropped game two behind a strong pitching performance from Pilot Point-native Preslee Gallaway. Gallway went the distance for the Lady Techsters allowing just two runs on one hit.

North Texas 10, LA Tech 9
All 10 North Texas runs came by way of the long ball. The Mean Green trailed 8-0 moving into the fourth before Rebar sparked the scoring with a solo home run to left field to pull the score to 8-1. The Mean Green then scored seven unanswered runs.

Two in the fifth off a Lacy Gregory two-run shot, five in the sixth after Rebar hit a two-run shot and Harley Perella homered to center scoring two tying the game at eight. Rebar now leads the team with seven home runs. Gregory has five while Perella checks in with four.

But the Lady Techsters were not quite ready to call it quits. LA Tech took the lead in the home half of the sixth by way of a RBI single. Hope Trautwein escaped a bases loaded jam in the seventh after re-entering the game. She was the starter, and awarded the win.

Trautwein pitched a total of 1.1 innings, allowing just two hits. Bailey Tindell did the majority of the leg work, going five innings allowing four runs on nine hits. Jenna Goodrich entered for 0.2 innings of work, allowing just a hit.

Then Rebar got a hold of another in the seventh. She placed it over the centerfield wall for two-runs and gave North Texas a lead they did not relinquish.

"We all love each other and believe in each other no matter how down we get," Rebar said. "It's really fun to play like that. Most teams are going to roll over at that point but we fought to the end."

LA Tech 4, North Texas 2
Game two moved at a rapid pace, lasting just 1:45.

The game was at a scoreless stalemate through four and a half innings. The Lady Techsters struck for all four runs in the fifth inning. A solo home run started the scoring before two doubles added three more runs.

The Mean Green had their chances. North Texas loaded the bases in the sixth. Katie Clark came across to score on an error off a Gregory at-bat. Rebar then drew a walk with the bases loaded scoring Perella.

North Texas left the bases loaded to end the frame.

"We didn't capitalize," DeLong said. "We've got to be more productive in those at-bats with runners in scoring position. We had an opportunity to bury them and we didn't. We got beat because of it."

The Mean Green return to action at noon Sunday with a chance to take the series.

"Need to play like we did today," DeLong said. "Just bring the energy and bring the emotion. It's going to be tough. Have to execute a little better hopefully we can come away with a win."
