MGSB Struggles Against No. 2 Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. – North Texas softball struggled against the top pitching staff in the nation on Wednesday night, being no-hit in an 8-0 five-inning run-rule loss to Oklahoma.

The Sooners (26-2) scored three early runs which set North Texas (16-10) behind quickly. The Mean Green could not recover as the home team pranced to a win in-front of a sold-out crowd.

"They put the pressure on us from the get go," head coach Rodney DeLong said. "I feel like we gave them a little too much credit. We sunk to the moment a little bit. It's a learning experience. Hopefully we grow from it."

Oklahoma struck for three runs in the first and fourth inning to grab a 6-0 lead before striking for two runs off Bailey Tindell in the fifth to walk-off the ball game and end it. North Texas used three pitchers on the night. Hope Trautwein got the start, going 3.2 innings allowing six runs. Jenna Goodrich relieved her retiring batter to get out of the inning allowing two runs.

"It's good all three of them got to face a line-up like that," DeLong said. "I thought Hope settled in a bit there in the middle."

Tayla Evans reached on a walk in the fifth inning to break up Mariah Lopez's perfect game. Lopez went the distance in the win striking out six. North Texas returns to action in Confernce USA play over the weekend facing Louisiana Tech in a three-game set.

First game is set for Saturday at 2 p.m.

"They've been the class of our conference for the last few years," DeLong said. "We go to work and go down there and compete, I like our chances."
