Mean Green Lose Regular Season Finale

NORFOLK, Virginia — North Texas failed to end the Conference USA play unbeaten as it lost 4-0 at Old Dominion on Sunday in the regular season finale.

After clinching the conference tournament top-seed and the C-USA regular season championship on Wednesday at Middle Tennessee with a 2-1 win, North Texas (13-2-2,  allowed the Monarchs (8-6-4, 5-3-2) to score more goals on them than their previous nine conference opponents could combine.

"I guess we wrapped up the regular season title and No.1 seed too early," said head coach John Hedlund. "But it was unfortunate we had a few starters out for today's game due to illness or injury.  Good news is all of the starters should be ready to go for the tournament on Wednesday due to limited playing time today."

Though Sunday's match had no significance in the conference standings for the Mean Green, a win or a tie would have marked the first-time in the program's 24-year history that they had gone unbeaten in conference play. The loss also ends UNT's unbeaten streak at 12.

North Texas' only lost last season in conference play came towards the end of the season at ODU. They lost that match 3-1.

In Sunday's match, three Mean Green women made their conference play debuts and four played a season-high in minutes.

North Texas will remain in Norfolk, Virginia, and start the conference tournament on Wednesday as the No. 1 seed. Stay tuned to find out who they play.
