Cox Goes Under Par For Second Straight Day

SADDLEBROOKE, Ariz. – The North Texas women's golf team ended play at the MountainView Collegiate on Sunday, shooting its best round of the tournament to finish in 12th place.

The Mean Green were led by junior Lauren Cox, who shot her second 71 in as many days and finished the tournament at 2-over par and tied for 28th in the field. Freshman Audrey Tan and senior Sabina Pena each shot solid rounds of 73 on Sunday.

"Lauren did a nice job breaking par in Rounds 2 and 3," UNT coach Michael Akers said. "Sabina had it going as well but suffered a double late in the round. Overall, our lack of depth hurt us this event. We had to take 77s and 79s this event and that gives you no chance against this caliber of competition. The good news is we are home next and will know the golf course."

Akers added that he is pleased his team put together its best round of the tournament on Sunday and that he is looking forward to the next time his team competes when the Mean Green will host The Bruzzy at Lantana Golf Club on April 1-2.

"We bounced back today but still did not go low like you need to do on this course in these conditions," Akers said. "We played poorly at the Gator last year then bounced right back at The Bruzzy and at conference. We hope to do the same this year."
