KAILUA, Hawaii – The North Texas women's golf team wrapped up play at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational on Wednesday at the Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course on Wednesday and hung on late to finish fourth in the field of 12 teams.
 
UNT finished the tournament at 39-over par, seven shots back of third-place Texas A&M after shooting its best round of the tournament. No. 2 Texas and SMU tied for the championship at 23-over par.
 
The Mean Green had several strong individual finishes, as four golfers carded top-20 scorecards at tournament's end. They were led by senior Sabina Pena and freshman Audrey Tan, who tied for 14th at 9-over, while junior Lauren Cox tied for 18th at 10-over par. Freshman Patricia Sinolungan rounded out the top-20 finishes for UNT, as she tied for 20th at 11-over.
 

"I am pleased with our overall performance in Hawaii," UNT coach Michael Akers said. "We once again saved our best for last and played well in the final round. You know your program is moving in the right direction when you are paired with Texas and Texas A&M in the final round. We beat both of them in the final round. Texas is the No. 1 team in the nation (in GolfWeek). I pointed out to our team that we are very good and need to continue to believe that and build confidence moving ahead."

 UNT was in fourth place after the second round, which was completed late Tuesday night.
 
UNT will compete again March 22-24, when the Mean Green travel to Tucson, Arizona, to play in The Mountainview Collegiate at Mountainview Golf Club.
