Cross Country Makes 2018 Debut at Bear Twilight

WACO - Matthew Morgan of North Texas posted his first top-10 finish as a member of the Mean Green while the men finished fourth and the women fifth at the Bear Twilight Invitational hosted by Baylor Friday night.

Morgan came in sixth overall with a time of 18:41.7 to push North Texas past Incarnate Word and UT-Arlington in the team results. Alec Esposito opened his UNT career with a 12th-place finish at a pace of 18:54.5. Cassidy Adams led the women's side for the Mean Green with a time of 14:46.1 for 20th place.

"Matthew Morgan ran a smart and tough race. He is the most improved on the team by dropping 40 seconds from last year," Head Coach Kevin Williams said. "Cassidy Adams and Jenny White were both over 20 seconds faster than what they ran here last year."

For the men, Tim Jones clocked in at 19:07.9 for 20th place, while Andrew Cobos concluded in 26th (19:13.2). Alex Cleveland (19:31.0) was in 32nd, and Caleb Bouchard finished in 39th during his Mean Green debut with a time of 19:53.8.

The women beat out TCU and UT-Arlington as Jennifer White garnered 29th place at 15:06.8, and Aubrey Schmidt (15:12.1, 31st) and Tatum Shelton (15:12.6, 33rd) completed their first race with UNT. Darrian Johnson (16:26.9, 53rd) and Kacie Mayberry (16:41.7, 54th) rounded out the finishers for the Mean Green.

"We have a lot of work to do and a long season ahead, but I think we are in a nice spot fitness-wise. Both the men and women had really nice summer training, and it shows," stated Williams.

Next up, the Mean Green host the Ken Garland Invite September 15.
