Lussy In Wisconsin For Nationals

DENTON – Florian Lussy will become the third North Texas student-athlete to participate in the NCAA Cross Country Championships when he makes his debut Saturday at 11:45 a.m. in the 10K on the Zimmer Championship Course hosted by Wisconsin. 
 
Lussy earned his bid to the championships at the South Central Regional with his third place finish in a time of 31:41.6. In order to be eligible to participate in the championships, teams and individuals qualified at their respective NCAA regional competitions.
 
"We are very proud of Florian for making it to this meet," Head Coach Kevin Williams said. "More importantly he is in a position to have a nice race tomorrow. The conditions will be extremely tough which will help him."
 
Thirty-one teams were selected to participate in each championship. The top two, seven-person teams automatically qualified from each of the nine regions, for a total of 18 teams. Thirteen additional teams were selected at-large.
 
Thirty-eight individuals were selected to participate in each championship through an automatic qualifier and at-large selection process. All individual qualifiers finished in the top 25 in their regions.
 
Jamie Crow (Lamar), Jordan Rowe (Lamar), Emmanuel Rotich (Tulane), Justin Domangue (UT-Arlington), Abraham Chirchir (UT-Rio Grande Valley) join Lussy as qualifiers from the South Central Region.
