Peer Recovery Meetings

Recovery meetings at the Collegiate Recovery Program are designed for all varieties of students and community members. The CRP offers SMART recovery meetings, student led recovery and holistic wellness discussions, as well as disordered eating, creative arts meetings and community building events. Our meetings cover a wide range of topics from personal recovery to education about substance use disorders and mental health. All meetings are open to anyone in the community and all students. Please see our meetings page for a list of regularly scheduled meetings.

Recovery Seminars

CRP student members are required to take a one credit hour elective course titled "Recovery Seminar" for their first two semesters in the program; it is optional after. The course will also be available to Rehabilitation, Social Work, Behavioral Analysis, and Integrative Studies majors in the near future. The seminar course is designed as a 16-week course that covers topics such as Recovery Action Plans, Quality of Life, Peer Support Services, 12-step recovery programs, alternative recovery programs, process addictions, Life in Recovery, and many other topics. The CRP Recovery Seminar is held every Wednesday at 2PM in Chilton 136, and is taught by Department of Disability and Addiction Rehabilitation faculty.

Academic Case Management

Transitioning into a full or part-time academic program as a student in recovery is a challenging process. The UNT CRP provides support and accountability for this transition through case management for all CRP student members. Case management is recommended for all members, and may consist of weekly check-ins with a case manager, recovery capital assessments, and creation of an Individualized Academic Success Plan. Case Managers are the direct link to on and off campus resources for student members, and are a wealth of information. Our main goal is to make your academic career as successful and meaningful as possible.

Student Scholarship Support

Financial burden can be a large barrier to any individual in recovery. To help promote academic success and achievement, the UNT CRP provides for scholarship aid to students in recovery through a competitive process. Currently, two such scholarships are offered in the Fall of each academic year. One scholarship is only for UNT CRP student members, the other is open to all members of Eagle Peer Recovery. For more information on Student Scholarships, visit UNT Financial Aid.

Recovery Residence Hall - "The Recovery Nest"

To maintain a school/personal life balance, while thriving in personal recovery, it is very important that living arrangements are supportive of recovery best practices. To encourage personal wellness, the CRP has partnered with UNT Housing and the Dean of Students to create "The Recovery Nest", a recovery residence hall on the UNT main campus. Students in recovery from substance use disorders, process addictions, or mental health illness are welcome to participate and live in the Recovery Nest. The Recovery Nest departmental support, recovery oriented programming, and a substance-free environment. All students who reside in the residence hall must agree to a substance-free lifestyle, regardless of pathway to recovery. For more information, and to apply, visit The Recovery Nest.

Peer Recovery Coaching

Research has consistently shown that peer recovery support services are the most beneficial to sustained long-term recovery. The CRP utilizes Texas certified peer recovery coaches and support specialists to provide one-on-one and group peer recovery coach sessions for CRP student members and Eagle Peer Recovery student members. CRP student members are required to utilize a peer recovery coach session once a month; Eagle Peer Recovery student members can schedule a peer recovery coach session throughout the year as scheduling permits. There is never a cost to any of students for peer recovery coaching sessions.

Academic Mentoring

Academic success is very important to our program, and very challenging at times for students. To promote success, peer academic tutors and mentors are available for all students in recovery, regardless of program membership. Students seeking a peer mentor/tutor can contact the CRP staff to schedule an appointment and to be matched. The difference between our mentor/tutor program and the university's, is that our mentors/tutors are also students in recovery.
