Mean Greens Gets "A+" Rating from peta2

For the fifth consecutive year, the University of North Texas has earned an “A+” rating as well as Dean’s List status from peta2. The animal advocacy group released its 2018 Vegan Report Card and thanks in large part to the success of Mean Greens Café, UNT continues to be recognized as one of the nation’s leaders in vegan dining and stands out even more in a state where the average rating is “B”. Just 193 schools out of 1,509 nationwide received the Dean’s List honor. To learn more, go to Peta2 Vegan College Ranking.

Growing Our Own Greens

Mean Greens is home to a hydroponic garden — the first of more to come — built inside a specially designed refurbished freight trailer behind the dining hall. Five to eleven different varieties of lettuce grow at any given time in the container, allowing UNT Dining to source up to 800 heads a week for Mean Greens and other dining halls on campus. All on about one gallon of water per day. The Mean Greens Farm drastically reduces food shipments and produces greens with superior flavor.
